The Ultimate Morning Skincare Routine

The Ultimate Morning Skincare Routine

You may hear people who have gorgeous skin crediting their glow to their morning skincare routine. And maybe you’ve tried to get a routine going before and not known where to start. The array of serums, moisturizers, toners, cleansers, oils, and sunscreens can get confusing.

But your morning skincare routine doesn’t have to be complicated. There are three basic steps that will get you the results you want: cleanse, moisturize, and protect. Read on to learn more about how to set up a morning skincare routine that will keep you glowing all day long.

Cleanse

The first step to your morning skincare routine should be to cleanse your face. Even if you wash your face at night, oils from your skin and pillow build up in your pores while you sleep. You want to start the day with a fresh face.

If you use oil-based products at night, start with a cleansing oil to lift out those products and the things they have brought to the surface of your skin during the night. Then get a gentle water-based cleanser to clean deeply without causing redness. Avoid scrubs as a daily cleanser, and use those once a week instead.

Moisturize

The trouble with cleansing your face is that it strips away the good oils along with the bad. You need to moisturize your face to keep your skin from getting dry and flaky. You can also add nourishing nutrients back into your skin with your morning moisturizer.

Start with a toner to balance your skin’s pH and provide a hydrating barrier layer for your skin. Then apply a serum that will help to protect your skin from all the harsh substances it comes in contact with throughout the day. Finally, put on some moisturizer to do deep hydration before you start your skin protection.

Protect

It’s crucial that you protect your skin every single day, not just when you’re at the beach. The sun can do irreparable damage to your skin even on cloudy days. A facial sunscreen will protect you from fine lines, skin damage, and potentially even cancer.

If you have sensitive or pale skin, start with a dedicated sunscreen with an SPF of at least 35. You may also be able to find a primer that acts as a low SPF sunscreen.

Set Up a Morning Skincare Routine

Having a morning skincare routine is about more than swiping on some makeup before you rush out the door. For one thing, taking proper care of your skin can give you that wonderful glow. But for another, having this ten minutes a day that you dedicate to caring for yourself can be an important component of self-care.
