Are you concerned about looking your age as you continue to get older? While it’s a common thing to worry about, it doesn’t have to cause you stress.
Aging is natural – there’s no doubt about that. There are ways to help your body look like its younger self, though.
Taking care of your body is one way to do it. But what, exactly, should you do?
There are plenty of ways to keep your body feeling and looking strong. Ready to find out about them? Here are 10 helpful anti-aging tips.
1. Don’t Skip the Sunscreen
Sunscreen can be really annoying. It’s greasy. It takes time to apply correctly. And it can be pricey, depending on what brands you like to buy.
Despite all these things, if the sun is out, don’t leave home without it. Regular trips like getting groceries or visiting the grandkids at home aren’t a big deal. But spending a lot of time in the sun is.
If you plan to spend any extended amount of time in the sun, apply sunscreen. Notice that this doesn’t only apply to the hot months of summer.
The sun’s ultraviolet rays can cause damage that leads to aging skin no matter the time of year. You can get sunburnt while skiing, so make sure you apply sunscreen whenever you’re ready to play outdoors.
2. Dance Your Age Away
As you get older, your skin shouldn’t be your only concern. What can you do to keep your brain healthy and young?
The answer to that is dancing. Believe it or not, this fun activity can keep your brain healthy and strong.
The great thing about dance is, there’s not only one way to do it. You can dance the night away on your own, at a club, or at a party with friends. You can salsa, tango, break dance, try ballet, or whatever else floats your boat.
Even if you think you can’t dance, there’s a dance for you.
3. Get Your Daily Dose of Vitamin A
Are you worried about lines, your skin tone, or dark spots? Then add some vitamin A into your daily routine.
Whether you use retinol or swallow a vitamin supplement, this vitamin helps you to have healthy skin. Keeping your skin healthy will help it looks its best.
Note that retinol isn’t always great for sensitive skin, but if you can use it, use it! If you can’t, find another way to get vitamin A into your life.
4. Manage Your Weight Properly
Weight gain is something many of us fear or avoid, but that’s not just a good idea for your health. Excessive weight can also make you look older.
This is especially true if you have additional weight in your face and chin area. So do all you can to avoid getting that double chin.
Proper weight management includes getting enough sleep, exercising, eating plenty of vegetables, and limiting junk food.
5. Avoid Sugar
Sugar is that one thing that just about everybody loves and knows they shouldn’t eat. While eating some sugar is okay, overdoing it can have serious consequences.
Limit the sugar you consume to a very small amount or take it out of your diet completely. Sugar harms your teeth, your health, and your skin.
How is skin affected by sugar? It can lose some of its firmness, which can make you look older. Wrinkles are by-products of sugar, too.
If you like your sweets, try using other sweeteners instead, or choosing sugar in natural form, such as in sweet fruits.
6. Drink Enough Water
Water is a key ingredient to a healthy life. Your body is largely made of water, so it’s natural that it needs it to perform well.
When your body has enough water it’s able to perform all its functions properly. So make sure you focus on hydration.
Hydration doesn’t mean drinking lots of soda or other sugary drinks. Make sure you’re actually getting enough water. If you don’t like the taste of water in general, add some powdered flavoring to it to make sure you get enough.
7. Get Enough Sleep
You probably knew this one was coming. Sleep is something your entire body needs in order to function at its best.
What does sleep do for anti-aging? It helps your skin stay nice and elastic, and it contributes to even pigmentation. On top of this, getting enough sleep will help your brain perform better.
8. Sleep the Right Way
The way you position yourself when you sleep has an effect on your skin. Think about it. When you sleep with the side of your face against a pillow, the skin on that side is getting smashed.
Instead, sleep on your back, if you can. Then your face is left smash-free all night long.
If that’s not an option, make sure you don’t sleep on the same side all the time.
9. Cover Up
If you’d really like to limit the wearing of sunscreen, make sure you cover up when you go outside. This means choosing a full-covering shirt over a tank top.
You may feel more comfortable in a tank, but a shirt will protect more of your skin, which means you won’t have to apply as much sunscreen.
10. Don’t Skip Your Post-Workout Shower
Whether you go super sweaty or not, it’s a good idea to shower after your workouts. If nothing else, make sure you wash your face.
Isn’t exercise good for you? Yes. But sweat and gunk can clog your pores, which doesn’t help your skin, so make sure you wash after you workout.
